Week-Long Global Event on Open Education
From March 1 to 5, 2021 the world celebrates Open Education Week. Learn more and join free events.
About Open Education Week

Open education includes free access to open-licensed adaptable course materials, videos, assessment tools, research, and textbooks. Open licenses help to make teaching and learning resources more easily available, adaptable, equitable and economical–especially for students. To learn more about open licensing click here to be taken to Creative Commons licensing site.
During Open Ed Week, teachers, scholars, and advocates host a range of different open events to help others learn more about open education.
“Open Education Week is a global event that seeks to raise awareness of free and open sharing in education and the benefits they bring to teachers and learners. […] The event showcases projects, resources, and ideas from around the world that demonstrate open education in practice.” – Open Education Consortium
An Open Ed Week calendar makes events easy to find, and more events may be found using a web browser search. See @OEWeek on Twitter and share activities using the #OEWeek hashtag.
Open Ed Week at Conestoga
Library Services and Teaching & Learning hosts several events during Open Ed Week. All are invited to attend then share back about how open may support your teaching. See the event list below for more information.
1. Ontario Extend Curator Module Meet Up
Monday, March 1, 1:00pm – 2:00pm, Register in advance (details below)
In honour of Open Education Week 2021 (March 1st – 5th), we thought we would host a Curator Module meet up for those who were a part of the Ontario Extend Curator learning experience. Let’s get together and have an informal chat about all things Open! Questions to think about:
- how have you used what you learned in the Curator module?
- have you located resources and incorporated them into your course?
- If so, would you show them to us?
- do you have more questions about Open that we could answer?
View demonstrations on the newly available Pressbooks’ Directory, how to hyperlink chapters into your eConestoga course shell and how to embed Open Educational Resources like H5P drag and drop activities into your eConestoga course shell, subsequently, reducing stress for your students as they navigate their course materials.
Register in advance for this meeting: https://conestogac.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0rdOyhqTsiEtWpfERjf-H2xPyzDHNvnibL. You will need to sign in with your Conestoga credentials.
2. Spotlight on H5P for in-Class Review
Tuesday, March 2, and Thursday, March 4, 4:00pm – 4:30pm, Contact Teaching & Learning for details
Drop in Tuesday or Thursday afternoon to learn more about using short, simple H5P activities as review, practice, and self-assessment for students during remote classes. If you use H5P, bring your own to share!
3. Hyped for H5P Lab
Wednesday, March 3, 10:00am – 11:30pm, Register through Student Portal
Join us for a deeper dive into another open learning tool, H5P Studio. In this hands-on workshop, you will be introduced to H5P Studio, have some time to practice, and come away with the skills to start creating your own H5P interactives to add to your Pressbook or eConestoga course shell.
4. Open Ed Week Share Back Discussion
Thursday, March 4, 12:00pm – 12:50pm, Registration information below
Attend any local or global Open Ed Week 2021 event, then share back with colleagues. What were your key learnings? What’s next for you? How might Conestoga support you? All are welcome to this informal lunchtime chat, even if you didn’t attend an event.
Last fall’s OpenEd 20 conference has available over 100 short recorded presentations for anytime viewing. The lightning talks (in green and blue) are 5 minutes or less!
