Starter Slide Decks for Talking About AI With Students

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Discussing generative AI (AI) with your students can help build their AI literacy and clarify permitted and prohibited AI use in your course.

Three “starter” PowerPoint slide decks may be downloaded below. Their purpose is to give you a starting point for introducing and exploring AI with students during class. While the slide decks do not stand in for a course Statement of GenAI Use (for the optional use of AI in assessments), they can support and reinforce how AI should and should not be used in your course.

Each starter deck provides information and short activities on a theme related to AI literacy. Activities enable you to explore the Microsoft Copilot AI chatbot, Conestoga’s Generative AI Toolkit for Students, and the importance of using AI safely and responsibly for student learning.

Slide content is minimal, including sample delivery scripts and instructions, to facilitate learning in small bites. The decks are designed to be flexible so that you may tailor any content to your specific course requirements. Use part of a deck, a whole deck, or combine information and activities from different decks. Customize the decks to include or replace with your own ideas and course-relevant examples.

Consider setting AI expectations and guidelines at the start of your course. You may wish to review or add information about AI use when introducing individual course assessments.
