New Workshop Series: Teaching to Promote Belonging, Equity, Diversity, Accessibility, Justice, and Inclusion
This new five-part Recognition of Learning series builds on the workshops offered through the Teaching for Student Diversity Series. In this series, we go beyond understanding student diversity, offering growth in your knowledge and teaching skills to foster belonging and equity, enhance accessibility, and strive towards justice and inclusion-orientated learning spaces within our diverse student body.
Teaching and Learning offers a Recognition of Learning and a congratulatory email to your Chair for attending all five workshops and submitting a one-to-two paragraph reflection on what you have learned and how it will influence your teaching practice. Email the reflection to teachingandlearning@conestogac.on.ca .

Workshop Descriptions
What you didn’t know about Assistive Technologies (EDV0316)
Assistive technologies can help students and faculty work with challenges and build on strengths. Join us to examine key assistive tech and practices and consider how they may show up in courses. Develop appreciation for how AT help all students and gain access to resources and information that can support you as you support students.
Enhancing Learning for All Students through Inclusive Use of Technologies in the Classroom (EDV0313)
Join us for an engaging workshop where we will explore practical strategies to ensure that technology enhances learning for all students, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities. Participants will learn how to use digital tools in inclusive ways for diverse learning needs. We will also discuss ways to create an equitable digital environment that fosters participation and collaboration for all students. Through active learning, participants will gain valuable insights into making their classrooms more inclusive. Don’t miss this opportunity to transform your teaching practices and support every student’s success, while using technology in your classroom!
The Circle of Care: Supporting Non-Traditional Students in the Classroom (EDV0314)
In this workshop, we will focus on students at the margins of the teaching and learning space: we’ll think about the only woman in the trades shop or the mature student attending a post-secondary institution for the first time. Come examine situations where a student faces the experience of being “other” and learn strategies for cultivating connection to enact inclusion and care.
How to Support Your Students with Disabilities: A Critical and Practical Introduction (EDV0317)
This workshop will introduce participants to a critical disability framework and disability history and activism in Canada. We will explore the differences between physical and cognitive disabilities; neurodiversity; and mental illness/ madness and the importance of applying a social rather than a medical model to these conversations. We will also identify specific challenges related to differences between high school and post-secondary accommodation processes and discuss practical ways that Conestoga College supports students with disabilities.
Belonging Begins Here: Creating Connections in College Classroom (EDV0312)
In today’s diverse and dynamic educational landscape, fostering a sense of belonging among students is more crucial than ever. The workshop will provide strategies for recognizing and addressing implicit biases, promoting cultural competence, and ensuring all students feel valued and respected. Join us in this session to take the first step towards creating a classroom where every student feels they belong.
