This teaching basics workshop includes a) a brief introduction to the unique characteristics and needs of students in their first semester of post-secondary education (with special consideration given to first-generation students), b) an overview of college resources available to help these learners, c) a discussion about best-practices faculty can employ to help ease the transition to post-secondary while supporting students’ ongoing development, d) a debrief in which outstanding questions and suggestions for teaching first semester students are shared.
