General Background and Education

My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Public Relations from Conestoga College. During my studies, I completed a co-op term with the college’s Alumni Relations department (which has since grown and become part of Employee Experience and Development), where I published feature stories on prominent Conestoga alumni (for a bi-weekly newsletter distributed to 1,000 readers) and produced marketing materials for fundraising campaigns. I then pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Alberta, broadening my ability to communicate with diverse audiences.

I am midway through a Master of Education at Lakehead University, with an estimated completion time of Fall 2025. This degree focuses on the universality of education and the power of social justice in post-secondary policy development and program management.

Industry Experience – Communications and Outreach

After my first undergrad (the Bachelor of Public Relations), I served as the communications manager for a small staging and design business in Cambridge, liaising with a team of stylists who worked independently with residents and other businesses across Ontario. I introduced a branding and style guidebook to promote consistency and relationship-building in written correspondence with stakeholders, and designed a training booklet on how stylists can write engaging website content to establish a personal brand with their clients.

Since starting with Teaching and Learning, I’ve implemented a weekly digital newsletter distributed to Conestoga professors, Chairs, Deans, and Vice-Presidents—promoting Teaching and Learning’s workshops, credit micro-credential courses, and on-campus events to a combined audience of 3,500. I’ve launched a faculty success story series to celebrate faculty achievements and to share how others can incorporate elements of effective teaching into their practice.

I develop outreach initiatives for Teaching and Learning’s programming, such as the Universal Design for Learning Symposium (The symposium’s planning committee is pictured above. Third from the right is Rachel Desjourdy, the symposium’s guest speaker).

Experience Teaching Adult Learners

I have taught Managing Marketing Communications, beginner- and advanced-level Writing for Public Relations courses, and College Reading and Writing Skills, a common course for every first-year Conestoga diploma student.

I have had the opportunity to design and present workshops at Conestoga’s Employees for Excellence in Education (E3) and SupportStaff@Conestoga conferences, including “Three Steps to Professional E-mail Communication,” “An Introduction to Internal Communication in Hybrid Work Environments” and “Using CoPilot to Write Effective Professional E-mails.”
